Davis began studying piano at the age of 9 and later taught himself the clarinet. A native of Shoreline, Washington, he was a member of the award-winning Shorewood High School Jazz Band. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Composition from Eastern Washington University, where he studied algorithmic composition, computer/electronic music, jazz performance, and contemporary classical music.
As a teacher, he emphasizes a robust foundation in music theory, sightreading, improvisation, and effective piano technique. His students come away with the skills to pursue a lifelong exploration of music.
Davis has composed and performed many original works, designed his own instruments, self-released multiple CDs, and is currently writing a method for adults interested in musical composition. He has conducted musical theatre, wind ensembles, church choirs, and chamber groups of all kinds. Davis has played jazz with many different groups, including dates in NYC, Reno, and all across Washington state. He has been a college English and French tutor for many years.
